Produkty Pitania Company increased production by 45% in the I quarter

Moscow. May 5. Produkty Pitania, one of Russia’s largest frozen chicken convenience foods and preserved products increased the amount of production by 45% in January-March of 2005 to 21.4 thousand tons.

Production growth was caused by implementing new production facilities, and as well as by a growing demand of consumers for convenience chicken foods, characterized by competitive prices and dietary properties.

Company representatives say production growth is accompanied by expansion of product range. In addition to chicken convenience and preserved foods, Produkty Pitania also has launched a convenience line of vegetables, ready-made lunches and hot snacks.

This year the company will  improving distribution and  marketing and branding, as to stimulate consumer demand and increase retail sales

Produkty Pitania Company was founded in 1994 to import chicken foods from the US and Europe, but since 1998 it has launched its own production in Russia. EBRD is one of the major shareholders of the company with 27.5% of shares.

The company operates three plants in Kaliningrad, which total an area of 7 thousand square meters with a capacity that produces 340 tons of products per day. In 2005, a fourth plant will be put into operation, to produce 600 tons a day.  This project investment will cost about $35 million.
