It always seemed strange to us that western families were having snacks while watching TV. However, now it is clear that the snacks system is evolving in Russia very quickly. Despite the accelerating growth, snack consumption is still very low and western manufacturers are broadly extending the range of snacks.

Tea Grguric, Produkty Pitania Marketing Vice-President, says that the major factor that identifies snacks among other products is consumer behavior. The International Snacks Manufacturers Association, provides the following definition of what a snack is. A snack is any packed product that can be consumed for on the go, to appease hunger. •  potato and corn chips;

•  crackers;

•  nuts;

•  seeds;

•  meat and fish snacks;

•  dry breakfasts;

•  dried fruit;

•  Musli;

•  Chocolate and grain bars (in Russia they are classified as confectioneries);

•   cookies/straw (in Russia they are classified as confectioneries);

•  cheese snacks (smoked cheese for beer, cheese sticks etc.).
