According to Produkty Pitania President Stefano Vlahovic who spoke at the Adam Smith 8th Agri-Food Forum, the economic downturn resulted in no reduction in frozen convenience products consumption to speak of. Meat convenience products still account for more than 45% share of the market segment. In the existing economic conditions demand for chicken meat convenience products is growing faster than for other types of meat. According to analysts (AMI VETRA-Marketing), in 2009 growth rate in chicken meat convenience products market was 10 –17% I natural terms. Average annual growth rates in this segment for the period to 2011 is forecast at 6 – 8%.
Despite the slowdown in growth rates observed in 2009 in the frozen convenience products market (in natural terms the slowdown was up to 1% and in monetary terms – at about 3%), analysts predict that the market will be demonstrating growth in the following two years.
Development in the segment will strongly depend on the population’s purchasing power, expanded supply of affordable products of good quality, imports dependability, general distribution segment improvements and further development of modern retail formats.
Produkty Pitania President Stefano Vlahovic informed the audience about the analysts’ predictions stating that in 2010-2011 the economic environment will be improving and this will provide additional momentum to the convenience products market, notably, to the affordable and promising chicken meat products segment.
